We talked today about science fair experiment ideas. We are wondering if any of our readers like any of these ideas the best. Please comment if you do.
1) How much cotton do we need to keep an egg from breaking if we drop it from the same height?
2) How high can I hold an egg before it will break when I drop it on the hard ground?
3) How heavy does a rock have to be to break a pinata if I drop it from the same height?
What do you readers think?
i like idea #1
ReplyDeletei pick number #1
ReplyDeleteI like idea # 3. I think it would be a lot of fun and you might get some yummy treats when you're done! A very nice class blog you have. Good work!
ReplyDeleteDear Third grade
ReplyDeleteI am very proud of the work you are doing on your blog. I have invited some other teachers and educators I know to visit your blog and leave you comments too.
I like all of your ideas for the science fair but I think # 1 is a good experiment because after you do it you could change the cotton which is your variable and try some different ideas. ( Mrs Hickle told me you just learned about variables.)
What are other things you could wrap the egg in that might protect it?

Since my school is 50% Hispanic I like the pinata breaking idea. On the other hand, I love breaking eggs. I say do all three!

I think you should do #2 & #3 combined. Your answer from #2 will determine your height for #3. I am going to ask my 3rd graders to vote for the idea they like best tomorrow.

Congrats to the 3rd grade class for all 3 ideas sound interesting and fun!
ReplyDeleteI think #1 and #3 can both be developed using other variables... cotton, newspaper, cloth, etc..
and #3... depends of what the piƱata is made of... clay, newspaper, etc :) Anyhow, sound like either way... be prepared for lots of eggs or lots of candy.
I think the first is the most dynamic and sounds fun! Eggs are cheap. I like the third idea, but pinatas are really sturdy -- I feel like you'd need a really big rock to break it! They are meant to be broken open with bats, so that might be more difficult.
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas!
#2 - i think it would be fun to see what "level of a third grader" the egg would break.
ReplyDeleteie- third grade eye level? or third grade nose level? =)
I vote for Number 3# because it is not about eggs.
